Slipped Away

Rory Winters has always felt separated from everyone around her. Strange dreams haunt her, animals are afraid of her, and she sometimes makes things move without touching them. When she receives her Hogwarts letter the summer after her eleventh birthday, things in Rory's life slowly start to make sense. The only persistent mystery is the box that she continues to see in her dreams - wooden and unassuming, marked only with the inscription: "take only what you can give." The more she thinks of the box, the more darkness she feels gathering within her, bringing fear and hatred along with it. Soon enough, Rory and her newfound friends find themselves steeped in mystery and deceit as they begin to uncover truths and lies, some of which are better left untold.
