Despite physically escaping its prison, the spider is slowed, its past weighing it down in the form of silk chains. It wishes not to forget, but to move on -- something that can be temporarily achieved through escapism.
Virgil Blackwood, a demon on the run from a past he won't share, meets and find himself locked in a complicated relationship with Roman Kingsley.
Strangely enough, their interactions are the spider's key to escapism, and that key may be used to unlock something else within the spider. Something Virgil believed to have been decimated long ago.
