In a dystopian Earth of the future, long after the mighty cataclysm, a whole world lives within the ruined shell of an enormous vertical Arcology, though none of them realize it for what it is.
Yanik is a fifteen-year-old growing up in the settlement of Blackwater and he's one of only a few who instinctively understand how to fix the old machines and Tek. His amazing memory leads to him becoming a mapmaker, plotting the ever-changing routes between isolated communities in a thousand-story structure most of which lies in ruin.
Though his skills are envied, that doesn't mean he's liked. His small, weak stature has been the bane of his life through childhood, with even the adults of the village poking fun at him. And now he must leave with his Uncle to explore the vast structure, making their way to the fabled city of Lockdown many levels below. He'll need his wits about him in order to avoid the multiple dangers-Hot Zones, Slavers, Traps, Raiders-that lie in his way before he even reaches the nearest of the isolated communities that eke out an existence in this feudal society.
If he is to find his father, exiled from Blackwater years before, he will begin a journey that will take him to the very foundations of his world, seeking answers he may wish he never asked.
The conclusion of The Runner series.
==================================
Half a year has passed since the fall of Babel. In that time, tales of the Runner have drifted from truth into legend. There are stories of a thief who toppled an empire, whispers about a hero who sacrificed everything to free us from the iron grip of a madwoman.
They say that the Runner is broken. They say that she is fearless. They say that no enemy stands a chance against her unstoppable army of warriors.
They say that she fights because her veins run red with rebellion, but I know better.
She fights because she has nothing left to lose.
