They always say it's better to write what you feel rather than acting on what you feel. It's supposed to be an outlet. When Dr. Scratchansniff recommended the method, the Oaks siblings were skeptical at first. They doubted that the idea of writing down thoughts and feelings as if they were their own therapists would actually help with the issues the three were faced with. 

Once they started their recommendation, its seemed like everything that happened to the siblings ended up in those journals.
