***This story contains spoilers for the Shadow and Bone series, both book and TV. This world is a mix of the two versions of this series, and will contain elements from both. I personally have seen the show twice through, and am about to start the third book in the trilogy. Some of the elements may be wrong, but I'm writing in a slightly altered S&B universe. The only connection to the Riordanverse is Estelle's name, and a few references to her family. All rights go to Leigh Bardugo and Rick Riordan, except for the current plotline.

I shake underneath the pressure of his words and he strokes my chin to calm me. Fine, but he has no idea what he is asking for. I shall be a queen, but not his. Every time a Sun Summoner dies, there is a burst of light. With every flashing death, Alina can feel a strong hum of power return to her. As a whirlwind of events sets her right back on square one, Alina makes a vital decision to change everything. A few days after Alina and I escaped the clutches of my brother, the former Ravkan general of the Second Army, Aleksander Kirigan, we parted ways. I went with Kaz Brekker and his gang of thieves, affectionately nicknamed the Crows, back to Ketterdam, while Alina Starkov and her friend, Mal Oretsev, left for other lands beyond the walls of Os Alta. In Ketterdam, I made a name for myself, aiding Kaz and the Crows in all manner of criminal behaviour, forgetting that I was ever the younger sister of the Black Heretic. I don't know where my mother or my dear friend Genya is - sometimes, this new life is unfamiliar and uncomfortable, especially within the tight, damp spaces of Ketterdam, this sprawling criminal town that seems so big and yet so small. Or within the base of the Crows that I sometimes call home - or the feelings that I seem to feel for Kaz Brekker. Kaz and I still don't understand each other, and I don't think we ever will.
