I let out a short gasp as I suddenly regretted throwing that rock into the water. It was a pretty marbled pebble I would love to show my mom when I got back home. I dipped my finger into the river to test the temperature before completely wading through the freezing water that was up to my thighs. I bent over and stuck my hand into the water, the iciness engulfing my entire arm until I couldn't feel what I was touching. (Not actually in the story anymore oops)
Unexpectedly, I was forced under the surging water, catching a glimpse of a black, gnarled, ghostly hand reach from my hair. I was pulled under and submerged, trying to wriggle out of the grip that held me under. I couldn't breathe- and my energy slowly faded from lack of oxygen. I felt as if my head was about to burst and I knew I had to act fast. I opened my eyes slightly though it burned like hell from the mud and what not.
I clutched onto a sharp rock nearby and jammed it into the arm that kept its grip locked on my hair. I tried to recreate the act over and over again, screaming out my strength until my hair was released and I lifted my head, water streaming from my hair and face.
I gasped for air and stared down at the murky water in shock and fear. The back of my head throbbed from being pulled. My heart calmed as I tightened my hand around the pretty marbled rock I had picked up.
