They say that which is forbidden allures us, and Rosaline Beaulieu knows that better than anyone. From a young age, she was mesmerized by the idea of magic, and she knew that the magic in her world was quickly dying. When she was young, a great tragedy took place because of specialists, people who wielded magic. Before the tragedy, magic was beloved and adored, but after...well, that was a different story.
A law was put into place by the Grand Master of Rosaline's country, Veridine, to hunt down all specialists and ask them to comply with giving up their power. If they refused, they would be executed. Over the years, it became clear that the Grand Master's soldiers never truly asked- they simply killed the specialists on sight.
Rosaline wants to change the fate of Veridine and to prove to her country that what they're doing is wrong. However, she's just one person, and she has no idea where to start. In the end, Rosaline ends up in a race against time to appeal to the four kingdoms of Veridine to aid her in her quest. Not only does she have to worry about getting caught or killed along the way, but she also has to worry about not being betrayed by her only source of help- a charming yet rough around the edges specialist with his own hidden motives and a bloody past.
