Claire was never supposed to be the one selected to join the King's Army. But after committing a crime that could never be forgiven, she had no choice but to leave everything behind she loves and knows.

Her whole life she's been a failure, looked down upon by the people around her. She was never good enough or strong enough to be viewed as anything but a mistake. But now alone for the first time in her life, she will find out what she truly is made of. And if it wasn't for Roland - the cruelest man she ever met, pointing out every mistake she makes along the way, she might even be able to pull this off.

Roland was brought up to win. Being trained his whole life to bring honor to his family through blood and war has made him hard and cold. He can't stand weakness, and that is everything that Claire embodies.

When Roland and Claire get put into the same training group, sparks fly. Only these sparks will create a fire that might destroy everything in its way.

As the new army recruits are being trained and molded into a sharp weapon, a danger grows in the shadows and only the bravest hearts will be able to conquer this darkness.
