The story follows a girl by the name Ember Tonovački, who has to run away from her home after the people in her village figure out that she has special abilities. While running from them, the so-called shadow summoner not only helps her hide from the villagers but also helps her find out who, or better said WHAT she is.

A few days after Alina and I escaped the clutches of my brother, the former Ravkan general of the Second Army, Aleksander Kirigan, we parted ways. I don't know where my mother or my dear friend Genya is - sometimes, this new life is unfamiliar and uncomfortable, especially within the tight, damp spaces of Ketterdam, this sprawling criminal town that seems so big and yet so small. Or within the base of the Crows that I sometimes call home - or the feelings that I seem to feel for Kaz Brekker. Kaz and I still don't understand each other, and I don't think we ever will. Alina and Mal set off across the sea, and from what I heard, they were going in search of the second of Morozova's creatures, the Firebird. Alina hopes that with the help of the Firebird and the Stag as Grisha amplifiers, that she might be able to take down the Shadow Fold for good. I know that my brother, Aleksander Kirigan, did not die that day in the Fold, and that one day he would come to exact his vengeance upon his lost Sun Summoner and all of Ravka. As Kaz prepares to unleash fresh hell on old foes, and as Alina prepares to hopefully end the terror of the Darkling once and for all, I myself am preparing for a war on both sides. A war to protect my newfound friends and family, the Crows, and a war to protect my people, the Grisha.

A/N: It started as a Darkling x OC book. But I couldn't justify that for the second season. So, for the second season, it has become a Nikolai x OC book. (I blame Ben Barnes even though I had read the books and knew what was coming, it still started with the Darkling, but then Nikolai swaggered onto the screen, and it just had to change!) Season 1: The Darkling was quite happy to keep to himself, locking everybody out. But that was hard when a chatty hyper healer was determined to get his attention without even realising it. The one problem is that having the Darkling's attention brought a lot of unwanted attention in and of itself. Leigh just wanted to befriend everybody (well, not everybody; she would love to be more than friends with a particular shadow summoner.) Season 2: Horrified by what the Darkling has done, Leigh does the only thing she can: run. Taking all that she knows with her, Leigh makes it to the other side.
