Inspired by Madeline Miller's 'The Song of Achilles' and the city of Pompeii, I bring you the story of the Lovers of Valdaro
There are debates going on about whether or not The Lovers of Valdaro were both male or if they were a straight couple. Their skeletons were found embracing each other, making the people of the internet call them lovers. They are said to be about 6,000 years old. There is still no solidified answer as to who they were, how they died, or what happened to them so this is just what I have come up with. In no way, shape or form am I saying my idea for their story is correct or historically/geographically accurate (as they were found in Mantua, Italy and Pompeii was in Campania which we'll blame on tectonic plates moving), this is for fictional writing purposes only.
Keep in mind that I do not speak italian, so I apologize for any misspellings or translations. Please correct me in the comments and I will make the adjustments accordingly when I can.
Also keep in mind of the following trigger warnings:
-mentions of sexual assault
-flashbacks of sexual assault
-forced prostitution
-abuse (physical, emotional and verbal)
-extreme homophobia (including verbal abuse with the italian word for f*ggot)
-mentions of slave mark/labor
(please know that I am encouraging none of these trigger warnings nor do I support them. this is simply for the story line as it take place in a time where this abuse was high. I do not use the word f*g to insult the community I am a part of and still learning about and it is not my intention to inflict harm upon others, again, this is simply for the story)
I hope you enjoy my take on the Lovers of Valdaro. Even though nobody knows who they are or what happened to them, I think they deserve a story. I hope mine will suffice until some new amazing author picks up the idea.

For years, I've been writing in silence, creating worlds, characters, and stories that lived only in the margins of my notebooks and tucked-away folders on my computer. Writing has always been my escape, something I've done for myself-a way to step out of reality for a moment and breathe through the lives of the people I've imagined.
