16-year-old Mirian Miles has been lost ever since her best friend abandoned her. Mirian struggles to find her place in the world. She only ever felt at home with her former best friend, Alexis Goldstein, and struggles with the reasons why her former friend ended their friendship. Now, Alexis is the captain of the cheer team at Wayview High and very popular among the student body.  As a powerful category 4 hurricane nears the coast of South Florida,  Mirian and her single mother are forced to evacuate, but a situation leads them to separate, and Mirian is left at her house during the storm. Suddenly, Alexis and Mirian are thrown together to ride out the storm in a strange turn of events, which causes both strain and relief. As they battle through the storm, they attempt to rekindle their past, and Mirian thinks there may be something besides friendship present.
