Who Wants to Live Forever?

Immortality should be fun, right? Wrong.
The Old Gods are dead, they have abandoned us, choosing the worldly pleasures of mortality over upholding their oaths and duties as Gods. They have given their power away, leaving us to fend for ourselves. The world as we know it has changed. We've been overrun with monsters, magic, and mayhem, and no one to reign in the demons that plague the people.
Residents of the House of Fate know this future well; born and raised on prophesies and tales of what the world would look like when the masses were tucked safely in their beds, choosing to play it off as the wind's howling and not the screaming of demons. They chose not to listen, and now this is their fate.
Now the Godcup is our only hope, a brutal game of give and take that comes to pass every thirteen years. We give everything. Our lives, our mortality, and our families for a chance at immortality, strength, and power unlike anything we've ever known. Hundreds of thousands of citizens between the ages of eighteen and thirty-five willingly put their names in for the drawing knowing that if they are chosen, they may die, leaving their families in poverty, and alone.
Thirty-six people will walk into the arena, and only twelve will remain. The last twelve standing will have won their chance at immortality. A seat in Olympus among the Gods for thirteen years until the games begin again; at which time they may choose to step aside making room for the New Gods, or to fight once again to keep their place.
What would you do to become a God?
To never again know hunger. To never again know fear.
But is anything ever truly that simple?
