"Art thou a spirit of health or goblin damned?"
All is still-still as the very grave. Not a sound breaks the magic of repose. What is that-a strange, pattering noise, as of a million of fairy feet? It is hail-yes, a hailstorm has burst over the city. Leaves are dashed from the trees, mingled with small boughs; windows that lie most opposed to the direct fury of the pelting particles of ice are broken, and the rapt repose that before was so remarkable in its intensity, is exchanged for a noise which, in its accumulation, drowns every cry of surprise or consternation which here and there arose from persons who found their houses invaded by the storm.

Amid the 19th century, on a sprawling farmstead embraced by the English countryside, lived Scarlette with her bereaved father and the memories of her recently departed mother. The farm, once a haven of familial love, now echoed with the silent weight of expectations. Pressured by societal norms to marry, Scarlette found herself at a crossroads, her spirit stifled by the duties thrust upon her. Seeking solace and an escape from these burdens, Scarlette fled to the bustling streets of London, a world apart from her pastoral life. But amidst the labyrinth of cobblestone alleys and gas-lit boulevards, she encountered a being of nightmarish lore-a man whose eyes burned with a blood-red intensity, his fangs a grotesque testament to his thirst. This harrowing encounter awakened something primal within Scarlette. A relentless thirst, unquenchable by any means of mortal sustenance, took root in her being. It was a craving that defied explanation, steering her away from the life she once knew. Realizing the peril her presence now posed to her family, Scarlette was compelled to leave everything behind. She embarked on a solitary quest, one shrouded in danger and uncertainty, to find a cure for the curse that had ensnared her. Her journey, fraught with trials and tribulations, took her through shadowed forests and forgotten hamlets, as she sought to reclaim her humanity and protect her family from the darkness that now hunted her. In this world of grim romance, Scarlette's story unfolded-a tale of love, loss, and the relentless pursuit of redemption.

Every year, in the old log cabin in the heart of the woods, a face appears at the window. A haunted face, illuminated by the light of the moon with the backdrop of the dark forest. It is the same story each year, the same cabin, woman, circumstances. But not the same story. This story is her story, because behind the haunting and the shadows and the fury, there was a woman. Three years. Three years, and seven people are gone. Seven, plus her. Years before these hauntings, in the very same woods, the village held a trial. All of those with magic, lined up in chains at the stake. One wrong move and they will be sucked underfoot. They know this well. But maybe being trampled by hundreds of feet of all sizes is a better fate than what awaits them. After all, the body, no matter how deep its wounds, heals faster than the heart. When Rose was a teenager, she entered a dare into the woods. Everyone said La Esperanta was folklore, nothing but a story. But now, she's eighty years old and she is the last
