It is custom for the young generation of the Shuren clan to participate in the Endless Hunt. Every year those of an age less than eighteen winters leave the safety of home and rush into the Fourfold Wilderness, a vast land teeming with sacred beasts--creatures of vast age and even greater power. It is the hope of every young Shuren to bring home trophies as evidence of their prowess and their right to stand among the great hunters of the Shuren.

Shuren Sana is not welcome on the Hunt. As a child, when her peers were first learning to control the elements that make up the the Shuren's Path in the sacred arts, she made a mistake. She played with the wrong kinds of aura. With a tainted soul, she will never advance along the clan Path of the Merciless Hunter. Sana was left to find her own way in the sacred arts from a young age; a clan invests its resources to strengthen the strong, not to shore up the weak.

Sana doesn't care whether she is welcome or not. She will descend into the Fourfold Wilderness. She will earn her place for the first time in her life. She will make her father proud to call her his daughter.

She does not know what is waiting for her in the depths of the Wilderness. She does not know the strange powers that will warp her spirit and inhabit her with deadly strength. And she does not know the power-hungry beings that will chase her to the four corners of the Rosegold Continent to tear that fated weapon from her corpse. The hunter will soon become the hunted.
