An invitation to a Masquerade ball. The chill of Autumn. The thrill of romance.
This is a (very) short story I wrote in response to a story prompt I came across, which simply said to write a scene or short story in which someone wears a disguise or costume. This was the result. Please enjoy! Comments and constructive criticism are welcome.

* * * "...Why are you following me?" I only muttered in case no one was really there. I didn't want any surrounding people to think I was crazy and just imagining someone behind me. "I didn't even get a thank you." To my surprise, there was a response. Slightly horrified, I spun around to look my rescuer in the eyes. Scratch that. In the mask. He was wearing a mask. * * * Saved from a rapist by a pirate. At first, Vivienne sees pirates as scums. She believes all of them are full of greed. Well, Vivienne isn't completely wrong. But when she accidentally boards a pirate ship belonging to the Masquerade Messes, her entire life takes a turn. Perhaps for the better, perhaps for the worse... either way, Vivienne occupies her time by trying to identify her rescuer. He's a part of the crew, but the only time he appears is during the masquerade parties. She tries to figure out who he is, but she struggles badly.
