"They say a man plants a garden because he believes he has a future. Is that why we do what we do? Because we believe we have a future? And if we don't have that, then how do we justify what we've become?" - Alexey.

30 years after a great war ended in mutually assured destruction the remnants of humanity still struggle desperately to survive. Their own worst enemy? Themselves.

This is the story of a survivor who struggles with the mental anguish of his past, morality and what it means to be human in a world only fit for monsters. In the frozen bones of Post-war Russia, there are no heroes and no villains, only those who are dead, and those who are not.

::This book is set in a post-nuclear setting and therefore does deal with topics that could be disturbing to some readers. It is also intended for mature audiences::

TROIKA - Countryhumans USSR x America by Arrin99423
10 parts Ongoing Mature
The world is electrified. Everything runs on electricity, from lighting to transport, life support to social media. Oblivion. Then, grid is down. And the world turns dark. And doesn't turn back on. America, the most forward thinking and innovative Western idealist, has answers. Her feminist values push her neck to neck with her male peers. She is one of the first to figure out that the grid will eventually fail, because of the vein of fossil fuel instability, trying to raise the alarm. When the grid does fail, she doesn't even get the satisfaction to say 'I told you so' before she is forced to collaborate in the TROIKA - a trio of biologist, engineer, and geophysicist that must find an immediate and then long-term solution to power the earth. Oh, and she has no choice. USSR, a cynic planner and injured war veteran, has questions. Torn between his eastern roots and western intelligence, he struggles to fit in, curb his aggression, and deal with personal loss. Instead of notifying the world of the impending grid failure, he builds a vast arsenal nuclear plants to power his land against the rules, and when the grid falls, his lights and machines keep running. When finally his arrest occurs, he finds himself in a unique situation, offered a position in the TROIKA - but if he declines, then a life of darkness behind bars awaits him. The goal of the TROIKA is simple: Be quick, be correct, be ready. It doesn't take long for USSR and America to loathe each other on principle, each with their own goals and ideals, clashing on everything from fashion to economics. Can they push away their pride and save the world, maybe even themselves? Or will their bitterness engulf everyone in thick, oily darkness forever? A single choice will ultimately decide their fate. 𝐒𝐀𝐔𝐃𝐀𝐃𝐄 (n): The love that remains ❛ Maybe I'm just not better than this, I haven't tried / 'Cause maybe you'll finally choose me after you've had more time. ❜ In a world where relations are fickle and trust is tentative, America's world is flipped on its edge when one of his friends build a flourishing friendship with someone he would've never imagined trusting - someone from a social circle he tends to avoid with all his might. As he becomes dead set on unraveling the truth behind his rival's suspicious actions, a much larger problem begins to rear it's ugly head, a problem that strays way beyond the boundaries of their childish bickering. One that speaks of rewritten history, a reality hidden from them since their beginnings. When Russia, China, and their friends enter the fray, presenting to the table a hasty alliance that could threaten everything they've ever known, America and his allies have to make a choice: live through a rose-colored tint, or accept their offer and venture off into a journey that shows just how real the problems of society are. For if they don't fight to make it past the haze and into clarity, nothing will ever change - for them, and for everyone else. The balance of fragile peace to total war is delicate. It's fabricated. And it will inevitably be shattered. ━━━ 𝗬𝗨𝗡𝗔 / @loverfaire 2024 Heavy topics. 𝗥𝗨𝗦𝗔𝗠𝗘 𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗖! Slow, slow burn. Fluff, crack, angst & mentions of historical events ★

The year is two- thousand, twenty-seven. The USA has collapsed. America is dead. The Cabinet of States has arisen from its ashes. Their very own Countryhuman, Cabi, in charge. Unbeknownst to the new government, a plot has been brewing in the shadows. A plot that is determined to wipe them off the face of the earth. It is something so dangerous, so ludicrous, that only a madman would consider going through with it. But that was exactly what he was; a madman. Russia, driven to grief over America's loss, makes a plan to bring him back. However, Cabi has her own plan that she is willing to enact. One that could rid the competition. One that could secure her place as leader. One that she is so ambitious, so desperate to uphold, that it may drive the world to its breaking point. Violence is coming. Terror is culminating. But hope is reviving. •-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-• Welcome to Darkness of Ours. This is a continuation from a previous book called Light of Mine.
