Those of the original Don families and those mated in were blessed with the ability to recognize their soulmates with just a look. And boy has he looked. Every member of every non enemy Mafia (several of the Dons are actually quite good friends-most of the time), every person on the street in every country and state he has visited, and he's been to a lot of places looking, and still, nothing. He worries that she has been found out, captured, beaten, or killed before he even got to meet her. There are signs a woman is a Don's mate, for those who know what to look for. Never has a Don gone so long without his soulmate, he is starting to show signs of succumbing to hopelessness, ruthlessness without her. A mate is a Don's biggest strength, or his biggest weakness.

But not all is as it seems, far away, there is a young woman of twenty-one, and she is of a different kind.
