The first month of work he realizes that instead of helping the mentally-disordered patients, he is actually helping the doctors craft the patients into monsters and psychopath killers. Mount Massive has had a history of unexplained deaths and other awful incidents, but when a mysterious force known as the Walrider releases the patients, all hell is unleashed as the now-transformed patients roam the asylum free, bloodshed around every corner. But as soon as the email goes through, things go sideways and they're thrown into Mount Massive Asylum, giving them a new objective. Escape the Asylum. -Cross-post from my Ao3- The Aftermath at Mount Massive is part one of a three part series called Survivors. This part is done. It is a fanfic for the game Outlast, set after the first game/DLC. However, you don't have to know much about the game to jump in. This story follows an independent journalist named Miles Upshur who received an email from a whistleblower, Waylon Park, who worked at Murkoff Psychiatric Systems: Mount Massive. The hospital was supposed to be run as a charity, offering help to those who could not pay, or for those who other hospitals wouldn't accept. However, things weren't as they seemed and Murkoff was using the hospital as a cover for a laboratory where they were performing experiments on humans. The end result of such experiments was the creation of Project Walrider, a bio-nanite parasite that lives inside a human body. Miles stumbles into the facility during a security breach and riot. He manages to survive the night but in doing so becomes infected with the nanites, becoming the new host for Project Walrider. The Aftermath of Mount Massive is about Miles coming to terms with what being the Host means for both his humanity and future.
