The Ark is running out of resources so Chancellor Jaha decides to randomly pick a prisoner to be sent down to earth to see if it's survivable. When Clarke is chosen to go down to earth she is immediately put in the pod and is sent hurdling towards earth. While she is in her pod it begins to spark damaging the communications system and setting her pod of course. Clarke's pod, unfortunately, has crashed on earth in Azgeda territory. When Clarke opens her pod door she is immediately taken by Azgeda warriors. The queen of the Ice nation makes her a deal that if she assassinates The Commander of the 12 clans that Clarke may become a member of the Ice Nation and they won't kill her. So, Clarke heads off to kill the Commander.
