Serene Matthews has always wished of being free of her parents' fights, nags and unending routine of separating and getting back together. These acts of her parents made her cold toward others and always shut people out of her life. She keeps her thoughts to herself but when there is a time she needed someone, it was her best friend.

Everything-- and I mean everything, every bit, and every piece of her life-- changes when she starts living with her grandmother and her second husband in New York. Which also means leaving everything behind.
