After the murder of her family, Yuki has been on her own. She has raised herself and learned to hunt and kill to survive. In recent years she has become the apprentice to a master assassin. When the emperor calls for a competition to find the best assassin in the land for a secret task, her master sends her to compete. She finds herself in an unfamiliar world of dinners, dances, danger and death. After learning about the task, she must win the competition, but it won't be easy. Even more difficult is the decision; her loyalty to duty, or her loyalty to her heart.

The Feud Begins For generations, the Shadowveil Clan and the Crimson Blade Clan have been locked in a brutal war. The Shadowveil are masters of stealth and assassination, striking from the darkness before vanishing like ghosts. The Crimson Blade, in contrast, are honorable yet ruthless samurai warriors, fighting with discipline and overwhelming force. When the Crimson Blade Warlord, Daigen, orchestrates an attack on the Shadowveil's hidden village, the assassins suffer a devastating loss. Their leader, Master Kaen, is slain in the battle, leaving Akane, his most skilled disciple, to lead the survivors. With nowhere left to hide, the Shadowveil warriors vow revenge, setting the stage for a war unlike any before.
