This novella tells the story of Peter, a 10-year-old boy who is an evolved animal, but genetically different from the rest of the population. Feared and excluded, he is seen as "the next stage in the evolution of evolved animals", suffering prejudice from both evolved animals and humans. His life changes when he meets Travis and Karina, two 10-year-old human kids. Karina suffers xenophobia for being Brazilian and Travis suffers racism for being biracial. The true friendship that blooms between them teaches Peter that it's okay to be different and that asking for help is a sign of strength. Being unique is the true wonder.
