Jaxon Williams' past haunts him. The events that occured leave questions that he can never answer. He struggles to let go and it's taking a total on his life. There's an arrangement made that attaches a good influence -- in the form of Avery Quinn -- to his Senior year in hopes that he'll get back on track to graduate. The mistake was not setting clear guidelines to this arrangement.
Avery's job is to get Jaxon back on the path to graduation by inserting herself into his school life. But things don't go as planned when she starts to spill into his personal life. This arrangement no longer just affects the two of them when they begin to involve themselves with each other's friends and their families.
Boundaries will be crossed, secrets will be shared, trust will be broken, and, worst of all, they begin to realize that the past is still there... waiting.

Before The Bad - Volume I
"If I told you my secrets, you would never look at me the same." His fingertips graze my jaw, travelling up behind my ear and into my hair. I let out a soft sigh, unsure of how I feel about all of this. It's all sort of abrupt, but the way my stomach flutters when I'm around him is undeniable. Jaxon inches his face closer and I'm sure he's going to kiss me. Only he doesn't. He shakes his head and steps back, rethinking his choice. And now, he's gone. He's left me, in the empty parking lot of Cardinal Carter, and all I'm left with is the chanting from the field. I turn my head and watch him pick up his pace as he nears his Jeep. He fooled me. "Ava, you have to be quiet! They'll hear you-" Tears started to spill from my eyes, blending in with the rain that dripped down my face. I shouldn't have come here. The last time I followed someone I made accidentally noise and got them killed. I had to get away from Jaxon. I turned on my heel, ready to run to, but Jaxon grabbed my wrist.
