Do you know the feeling? The feeling where you want to run, run so far away, so fast. Feeling like your legs could carry you going 100 MPH down some old road no one has drivin on, a road that hasn't seen a single living soul since it was paved. That's the feeling we all had. The feeling of freedom. Running. Running from everything. We ran, and ran, through a field with grass so tall it reached our hips, a field decorated with white delicate flowers. We were so far that you couldn't see us unless you looked really hard. We ran from finals, and homework assignments. We ran from part time jobs and nagging bosses. We ran from drunk dads and distant moms. We ran from dead brothers and brothers who shouldn't have given us that cigarette when we were 12. We ran from black lungs and we ran from bruises that never went away. We ran from dads that beat on us and moms who were never home. We ran from our lives, and from ourselves. //High school is always a challenge, especially while dealing with the difficulties of finishing sophomore year, strained relationships, boys, family, and a friendship with the mysterious new girl at school, Sara. I crawled and sunk impossibly deeper into the couch behind me, biting my nails to hold back the scream of horror aching to burst through my chords. The terrifying and spine shivering sight of flesh being ripped to pieces, agonising screams of terror and the horrendous sight of blood splattering on the living room window escalated my heart beats to rhythms I never thought possible. Suddenly all was quiet, silent and dark. The light from the moon that peeked through the window became non-existent. The screams of terror and horror disappeared and at the window I felt the presence of the monster who was doing this. It turned a bit staring back at me with menacing yellow orbs penetrating to my soul as a silent warning that I would be next. Next in line following the demise of my very own...family.
