Elijah Gates believes that the United States is simply a horrible, sin filled country. Humans are naturally vulnerable to corruption by the devil, and these citizens are no different. In 1960, Elijah Gates decided to the unthinkable. Recruiting a populous of fifty, Elijah migrates them and his own family to an uncharted, wooded territory in Southern California. There, the Gates Community is born. Lead by Elijah himself, it is a society that is unknown to the rest of the country. In simple words, it is a tight-knit religious community that everyone is happy to live in.

Or is everyone? What happens to the people that rebel from the community? There is one rule that stands above the rest: "No one enters, no one leaves.". For sixteen year old Vivien, it wasn't the easiest to follow. She knew of the outside world, and her soul yearned to be free. It was a burning desire in her heart, and she would do anything to explore it. Then one fateful, rebellious night, everything changes.
