A man has an opportunity to right one wrong from his past and realizes the true meaning of regret. Another man's senses are replaced one by one with something alien. A golfer in the aftermath of the apocalypse sets out on a quest to keep the game he loves alive. A conversation between two sides of one man's psyche reveals something in us all. A snowbound woman holds the fate of the world literally in her hands. Once all sides of the box are revealed, the homeless man discovers the promise of a new future built on memories from a past he never had. Years ago there was a blackout. One day all the lights went out. The cars stopped running. Electricity no longer existed. Nothing that ran on electricity works anymore. People panicked and tried to survive for as long as they could. Some made it out of cities the others stayed. Our government fell and militias took control. The Monroe militia took over. Then one day he found electricity again. He used it for bad and soon conquered the whole world. Years later our world now runs on electricity again. The Monroe militia is still in power and they force teens to go into an academy to train as merciless killers. This is where I go. In the distant future of the 28th century, mankind had survived near extinction then made it into the wider galaxy. With almost no other sapient life in the Milky Way to stop humanity's expansion. Space was ripe for the picking. Now mankind and the enigmatic Voidrians formed the U.S.S.A. The (United Solar Systems Alliance). Before Mankind became the dominant force in the Milky Way, Earth was in shambles. Natural resources were nearly depleted, diseases were rampant and most of Earth's population was in poverty. Then by some miracle of discovery or a cruel cosmic joke, in the mid-23rd century when all humanity could do was go out into space to search for a new home, a small planet that was black as the void around it was discovered. The humans who landed on the little planet had nearly lost all hope until they stumbled upon unknown ancient ruins beneath the planet's surface where they discovered untold amounts of bizarre advanced technology. Earth and humanity were saved, and the little planet to thank for their salvation was named Umbra. Alice is a xenoarchaeologist, her passion in life has always been the study of ancient cultures, and now she has the opportunity to study the most ancient one of them all.
