Three brothers Michael the statesman, Chris the private eye and Ian the lawman live their lives unaware of the veil, a shadow world of sin, spies and sorcery and the way of the practitioner. After the murder of their father at the hands of his old enemies, the three set out in search of the killers entering a game against a fire lion and a wildflower.

Practitioner's abilities awaken after the death of a family's last power user and those who gain the abilities must compete in a game of chance to induct the next family's practitioner.
