Verin has lived a simple life as a daughter of the king and queen of Arkaya. Her daily life would include her lessons, reading, taking strolls through the gardens, and a particular hobby she has taken up: that of archery. She's always been fond of a certain knight, Sir Valian, but it wasn't until he became her instructor that feelings began to bloom between the two. Uncertain whether or not to ask her father permission to court him, she bides her time for the perfect opportunity. King Emar has different plans for his daughter. He decides to set up a challenge for the kingdom's knights for Verin's hand in marriage. Once told of this, Verin is sent into a spiral of emotion, only to go against her morals and go behind her father's back to ensure Valian wins. After a night of planning, she is certain nothing could falter in her scheme. Fate is a fickle friend though, determined to sabotage both of their plans. Verin is thrown into an adventure of her own, one that will test her breaking point. During this time, she discovers more about herself than she has in all her life. Will she want to return to the capital though? Stay true to her love for Valian? Or will she be captivated by the thrilling pace of life outside the confines of the castle?

Nearly three centuries ago, the once-mighty human-dwarven alliance of Ostrovia was destroyed during a brutal series of civil wars and political malfeasances. Ancient blood magic and dwarven machinery fueled the death and destruction. Kings turned on one another, and the great wizards were corrupted by their own power. In the last days of the fall, the orc tribes, united by chaos and bloodshed, descended from the mountains and destroyed the war-torn kingdom, becoming the new dominant race of the land, leaving humanity on the brink of extinction. During those final days, a group of desperate survivors set course on a bold expedition into the perilous and uncharted Sea. Against all odds, a single ship crashed upon the shores of Avaloria... a realm steeped in ancient magic and guarded by a living forest teaming with dangerous enemies and undiscovered wonder. Now, nearly three centuries later, under the steadfast leadership of Aldros Valtir, the descendants of that fateful journey labor to rebuild civilization in the new world. At the edge of the wild frontier, young Aelar Varos has grown up in Harrow's End, a modest village, clinging to the untamed forests of Avaloria. But when Aelar unwittingly attracts the attention of something more powerful than he can fathom, it sets his destiny on an uncertain course. Cedric Valtir, eldest son of the King and heir to the throne, is loved by his men and women in equal measure. In the bustling heart of Valoria, where the lively corridors of The Silver Stag echo with hope and revelry, Cedric bridges his regal past with the promise of a new future. With his effortless grace, keen intellect, and warm humor, he inspires his people as he listens to their dreams and fears, even as whispers of impending threats swirl around him. But what will fate have in mind when he leaves the walls of the city that defines him?
