"Come on, you can do it, Sappy Nappy," Karl laughed, swaying his dangling legs from the lowest branch of the tree. He was grinning a teasing smirk as Sapnap chuffed like a brutish feline with his feet planted on the ground. "Are you giving up?" "No!" Sapnap growled with his tone sharp and bottom lip pushed out further than the upper one. Karl still thought his appearance was heavenly: under pure blue moonlight with stark bangs and waxy skin. With another grunt of frustration, Sapnap reeled back to leap and clawed back at the tree. "You're not going to get it by jumping," Karl's voice was slick, a bit authoritative without sounding like a parent. Sapnap didn't listen anyway. When his fingers didn't catch in the grooves of the bark, he let go again, landed on the ground with unexpected stealth, and tore one of the rolls of sickening bubble gum from the ground. He ripped off a strip rather close to the length of his arm and prowled away, pupil's almost vertical slits from frustration. Energetic and lovable middle-child Karl's strengths are aplenty, but they sure don't include senior year calculus skills. Thankfully, a reserved but imaginative neighborhood boy, Sapnap, has just about the highest grade in his calculus class (not that he'd ever actually admit that, though). Quickly their friendly hangouts begin to foster a secondary meaning, as both boys start to develop feelings for each other. As Karl and Sapnap grow more and more attached, a shocking discovery takes a toll on one boy's mental health, and this leads to a strained and unpredictable relationship between the two. Will their attachments to each other be enough to conquer the realities of their adolescence nearing an end, or will forces out of their control prove to be too strong for their young love? Trigger Warnings/Content Warnings: Strong language, mental illness, physical illness
