Why do people dream? 

Each night as we lay in our beds dreaming. Where do these visions come from? Why do we sometimes wake up crying, screaming, or smiling? Some people even die. So why?
Are dreams premonitions? Is it a way for our brain to trash unwanted thoughts and memories? Is it our way of reacting to anxiety and stress? Is it a way to escape reality? It's an endless mystery really. 
A mystery I never should've unraveled. Questions I never should've asked. For some questions are better left unanswered.

A collection of stories based of my dreams and nightmares. Recently I've been having vivid dreams and nightmares that seems recurring or just memorable. Either caused by my anxiety or troubles that I don't acknowledge. People always say that there's meaning behind dreams and I'm here to figure out what it means or just to share an interesting tale. Some people have wacky dreams but for some reason mine seems to be pretty creative and straight forward that's good enough to write a story for. That's what I use my dreams and nightmares for, inspiration. Hopefully you guys enjoy these short and easy to digest stories. I had a dream. It was not some ambition, nor a lofty goal that I wanted to pursue. But a true dream. Nearly a nightmare, really. But it was fascinating to me. Over a year later, it sits in my heart as heavy today as it was then. The tones of the dream and its themes, for want of a better word, were weighty, intense, and disturbing. A dream that explored themes of death, loss, shame, self-destruction, depression, and the struggles of the human condition. I'm not a writer, even casually, though I've long been a lover of books. This is my first, and likely only, attempt at writing, an attempt to put to words the contents of that dream that left such a mark on me. This is my dream. It is not perfectly relayed, for that would be a poor payment to anyone who takes the time to read this. Rather, it is the bones of my dream given flesh, clothed in my own experiences and traumas of the human experience. I hope that you, dear reader, find it as compelling as I did when I first dreamt it.

Valerie's crippling illness leaves her hospitalised, bored out of her mind, dreaming of how she just wants to be a normal teenager. Although her thoughts are constantly intruded by someone. The boy. She was intrigued by him, he visited everyday at the same time, 2:47pm. She wanted to know his story, why was he here? Is he visiting someone? Her curiosity overflowed her. Anyways, it didn't matter, for her illness was getting better and she could finally get back to school. Sophomore year. Gosh. She could finally be a normal teenager. Then she saw "him" in the school hallways. The boy. Although he seemed different, less warm, more cold. It was like he put up a façade and barricaded his true self. Dev, he saw the same dream every night, the same beautiful curly haired girl, looking at him with those pleading pair of eyes, but he could do nothing to save her from drowning. He tried to avoid this weird attraction towards an imaginary girl, tried to fight the growing pain inside him but what did he do when the girl from his dreams came into his life like a gust of wind? He settled to his instincts. Instincts that made him borderline obsessive. Rik, he learned to control the pain, the dream didn't bother him anymore the way it bothered his twin brother, at least that's what he told himself, that the suffocations are normal, that not finding peace at anything was normal, that painting the picture of her and keeping them secret was normal. He hated her for disturbing his peace of mind, until the day he saw her from the very front. And then he knew he will do anything to have her in his life. Teressa, being ignorant to everything, dived into a world that took her back to the darkest part of her life. A life that kept following her from the past, along with the twin brothers. The more she learnt the more pain she felt it. The growing emotion, that led her towards the truth. I was only 7 when I met her, but we had an instant connection. We were inseperable. She was always happy and joyful around me, but me on the other hand, I was a completely different story. I suffered a disorder that caused me to have no emotions. I told her my condition and she understood, but one day she dissapeared, I didn't feel sad, worried or angry like I should have. I just continued my day like any other day, but by myself. I continued to have no friends as I got older and talked to no one, but it didn't bother me. I soon became the "weirdo" as most people would say. I became known as the girl with no emotions.

There's always a change, an altering of reality. When you meet those people, the reality that you've known your whole life is suddenly gone and a new one has taken its place. When those moments happen, there's no going back. You can try to return to the way things were but nothing, and I mean nothing, can take you back to exactly how it was. That's what happened to us. I think that's why we're still trying so desperately to get back to some sort of normalcy. Four years later and we're still on the ground, crawling, in search of the happiness that was lost that June. Summers will never be the same. Midnight walks through my neighborhood will never be the same. Field parties with bonfires and loud music will never be the same. I still don't know why you left and what lead you to the decision you made. What I do know is that we're here. We're alive and we're pushing forward to the future. A future that you're not a part of. Part 2 of "Doubts" It was that same feeling I felt deep inside me the day my grandparents left me. My stomach began to cringe. My throat was in knots. My breathing had gotten hard. My instincts were telling me something just wasn't right. I felt useless and alone... I had always knew pain my whole life but this was next level. That feeling of holding back and regret filled my veins with agony. I was lost in my thoughts. My heart felt colder and colder with every minute that passed by. Who am I ? Who am I really ? What is my purpose in this life that I lived? That I once knew ..... why did this bad luck fall upon my life? What did I do to deserve this ? I'm cursed. I have to be. I cried so much in that hospital bed that no tears seemed to want to fall anymore. I had no tears left in me to shed. When Akeem left this room, I knew it would be the last time that I would see him. My better half. My Ace. My love. My husband. My life. Gone. Forever. It wasn't confirmed but I knew it. I just knew it. Life fucked me hard. So why not throw it back.
