Set in the late 90's/early 2000's written from various points of views.
Alex Turner, Matt Helders, Jamie Cook and Andy Nicholson are in their last year at Stocksbridge High school in High Green Sheffield. Deciding to form a makeshift band called Arctic Monkeys full of self taught musicians so they can cover songs for their friends, they find that together they make a pretty good band and with Alex's songwriting, Matt's charm, Jamie's humour and Andy's bass they wonder if they can become more than just a group of friends with guitars?
Taxi ranks, totalitarian bouncers, disappointing evening entertainment, robots from 1984, cigarette smokers and riot vans feature heavily.
It's New Years when Alex turns up drunk and high on your doorstep, and you find looking after him is a chore. But he's a shameless flirt, and trying to ignore the words spilling from his mouth becomes increasingly difficult.
Plus, the prospect of going from just friends to something more isn't as easy as it sounds, as there's a complication waiting in the wings...
