Hazel was a monster. A murderer. She hadn't meant to kill him, she would have never harmed a fly, but something in her had clicked. Anger took over. And that was the only reason why. But nobody believed her. And no one cared about her. Hazel's parents hated her, her family hated her, her friends hated her, even people that had no clue who she was hated her. The only person that loved Hazel was gone, and all because of her. She was alone.

It was one day until Hazel's execution. She wasn't dreading it, in fact she felt that she would rather die than be locked in a cell for any longer. But the sooner it came, the more she started to want to escape. However, only ten minutes before the expected death, a young boy comes to save her. He takes her to an institution - a school - and she finally feels as though she belongs.

The world looks like ours to the general public, but hidden in the shadows are horrifying creatures and the extraordinary humans who hunt them. Selene does not look anything like her parents and her eyes are uncanny- leaving her parents unsettled. Especially since they never wanted a child anyway.
