Her childhood friend, Mikasa Ackerman came to live with her and her family after her parents were killed. She also became friends with Armin Arlert after sharing their love of books and learning. Greta always suspected that her father was hiding something from her and her brother, she got suspicious because her father would be gone for long periods of time and he would spend all his time in the cellar. Greta was very observant for her age, especially when it came to learning about the dreaded Titans; they were monsters that appeared out of nowhere one hundred years ago. After watching her mother get eaten by a Titan; she, Eren, Armin, and Mikasa are evacuated from Shingashina with the help of Eren and Greta's family friend, Hannes.
