Is the clown the fool of the story, or are you? After all, the clown knows it's an act, but the audience is so lost in it that they tend to forget. Alfred had lived a long life. He'd learned a lot in it. That England was easy to gaslight if you knew what you were doing. France would back away from any show of force. Germany could ignore a bumbling idiot even as the evidence piled up just because he wasn't very good with people. Poland saw everything and read people like a book. Prussia would keep his mouth shut if you gave him enough liquor or made him obedient. Russia would turn a blind eye if you turned one to him. China never trusted anyone even if there was evidence of the contrary. An identical pair of twins, the older Alfred, and the younger, Matthew, are junior students at a high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They are living in an abusive foster home. Matthew is studious and is kind to everyone, while Alfred does anything to protect his younger twin and is a player on the football team. Arthur, his husband, Francis, and their daughter, Victoria, move to the US for Francis's job. Arthur begins teaching at the high school Victoria starts attending and has the two twins in his classes. Matthew is kind to him, while Alfred is quite the opposite. Arthur soon discovers the devastating life the boys are living through.
