Like most teenagers who leave high school and go to college Shona didn't return home to California after graduating. Instead she got an apartment with some friends out Midwest and stayed in the windy city, until she got pregnant. Even then she didn't want to move back home but she needed her family's help to raise the baby and her ex-boyfriend refused to leave the Bay and move across the country. So back home she went but not to the Bay and not to her hometown Freeridge. Once your free of the hood you stay away from the hood.
But when tragedy strikes and Shona is the only one willing to handle the family drama it's back to the hood, and it couldn't have been at a worse time. Not only is her baby daddy an ex-prophet, he's also an old friend of her first love Spooky a.k.a Oscar Diaz a.k.a Santos Leader and Freeridge is in the middle of a gang war.
