In the beginning of the Vietnam War, Marinette and her family work for the Agreste's Plantation and Adrien was the sight of her eyes when they first met, until the Viet Cong attacked them and killed Adrien's mother. After Marinette is left behind in the jungle, Adrien vows for revenge for his mother and to bring back Marinette to France, to her parents, by joining the US Army.

Years later, after joining special forces, and christened "Chat-Noir" as his code name, he is offered a mission where he must travel into behind enemy lines in an PT boat up from the urban ruins of Hue to the DMZ in North Vietnam with a unstable platoon fighting each other, just in time for the start of the Tết Offensive.

On mission, he meets with the shy and nervous girl but a cold-blooded CIA agent code-named "Ladybug" on the same assignment with Adrien, unknowingly that it was Marinette who was by his side the whole journey.
