Johnathan McCann has been in the Refuge ever since he can remember. The kids there have dubbed him "Letters" because he's the one that delivers the kids' letters either by mouth or in print. But what the kids don't know is that Johnathan actually works for Snyder the Spider, giving him information about escape plans and attempted grabs at more food and clothes, getting beaten when there's no new information. None of the kids know about what their "Letters" actually does, and Johnathan almost feels bad for misleading them. Almost.
But all that Johnathan knows and believes in is shaken when a crip who is close with the fantasized about Sullivan - or Jack Kelly as most know him as - is thrown into the Refuge, and seems to trust "Letters" with information about him. What will happen when Johnathan starts becoming more and more fond of the cripple who is best friends with his #1 enemy?

Humans don't understand how someone can be both dead and alive, and that fact scares them, it opens up the possibility of a threat even if there is no evidence of malevolent intent.
