Ever since the death of their beloved Prince Beomgyu, the Naeil Kingdom has been in mourning. King Namjoon, unable to get over his son's kidnapping, rules with an iron fist, increasing taxes randomly and refusing to listen to his people. Every year, a festival is held in Beomgyu's honor, and all people in the kingdom are required to attend and light a yudeung water lantern, to commemorate Beomgyu and as a symbol of hope for his improbable return.
Kang Taehyun doesn't believe in hope -- he believes in science and hard facts. Which is why he started the Magic Island Network, a series of secret routes and outposts where he and others funnel money out of the Capital and back into the hands of the poor constituents. While escaping from the palace guards one day, he comes across a tower in a hidden grove. Inside is a girl named Cholongkkoch with really long blonde hair, who has never ventured out of the tower before without her mother to guide her.
Taehyun and Cholongkkoch become instant friends, and over time, Taehyun uses the tower as a hiding place, going to see her during his money laundering missions. And when Cholongkkoch mentions she's never been to Prince Beomgyu's Tiger Festival, Taehyun knows he has to take her. Can Taehyun and Cholongkkoch escape her mother, whose strict rules have kept her locked inside for her entire life? Why does Cholongkkoch have a magic penguin following her around everywhere? And will Taehyun's best friend Soobin ever stop staring at Captain Yeonjun Choi of the Palace Guard??? (Seriously, it's slowing down his game.)

"Well I'm sorry, but don't you think you should be a bit nice to me Rat Face," Soobin clapped back. The boy's eyes widened. "Well I'm sorry-" The boy glanced at Soobin's name tag, "Soobitch."
Yeonjun is an adopted 17 year old. He grew up in a kingdom called Ayra, which is ruled by the Choi family. Everyone has heard of how kind and organized the royal family is, even Yeonjun knows. His whole life has been boring and the only thing he finds remotely interesting are books. Not those boring textbooks that are more heavier than a cow, but the books that hold stories that act like an escape from reality. What if one day, Yeonjun comes across a book that shines a new light on the royal family that uncovers secrets only a few people know.
