It's no secret that there is no love or affection inside the Ze'nin clan, Naoya is a good example of that at his 27 years. He despises everyone inside and outside that clan and wants the power to control it all... and that is not a secret either. He is building a good career as a sorcerer because he will need his reputation and contacts to back him up when the time comes.
Nobara is 22 and free of responabilities inside the sorcerers' world. She has no family to back her up, nor the money to buy a position among the higher-ups. Not that she cares, either. She doesn't want power. She wants to become stronger and not to fall behind when the time comes.
There's a war coming, they can feel it in the air and they need to be ready.
That is why, when both sorceres where called to work together, none of them could say no. Even if taht means that Naoya can't stand her. Even if that means that Nobara wants to slap him all the time. Even if that means that Naoya starts to see her as an equal. Even if that means that Nobara starts to see through all the walls he's built.
UPDATE: Since Naoya's age was confirmed this week, I wanted to change it up a little and repecting Gege's decission, even though I thought he said that he was in his early 20s at the beggining when he first appeared. So I've aged Nobara up to 22 so that the age gap isn't that big, sorry for the changes, the fic stays continues on the same line as it was originally intentioned to be, enjoy!.
