Þóra is nothing short of content. She has achieved high status as her tribe's only shieldmaiden, acquired the love of a fiercely protective husband, and been blessed by the gods with the gift of a son. There is nothing more she can dream of that might make her life more wonderful...or more painful.

Despite her seemingly infinite happiness, Þóra is faced with unspeakable tragedy and forced to uproot her life and all she has known to start fresh within a strange new tribe.
