Wyrd: the Norse equivalent of the English word fate.

Þóra is nothing short of content. She has achieved high status as her tribe's only shieldmaiden, acquired the love of a fiercely protective husband, and been blessed by the gods with the gift of a son. There is nothing more she can dream of that might make her life more wonderful...or more painful.

Despite her seemingly infinite happiness, Þóra is faced with unspeakable tragedy and forced to uproot her life and all she has known to start fresh within a strange new tribe. Seeking Frigg's guidance and foresight, Þóra catalysts a journey she has no power to control - and a Wyrd she can no longer avoid. Throwing herself into the hands of her gods, she bends to the will of whatever - or whoever - comes her way, including the clandestine wishes of her new tribe's strange and brooding jarl.

What are the gods' plans for Þóra?

And will she ever thaw the ice in her heart to make room for a new epoch of fateful surprises?

Power has a price. No Half Bloods know this better than the Lifs and Lifthrasirs, possessing the power of Yggdrasil itself, able to manipulate the dimensions of Life and Death throughout all 9 Realms. The price? These Heroes outlive all Mortals, their only choice for happiness is to curse their beloved with a "Blessed Apple" derived from the famed immortal apples Iduna guards, trapping their loved ones in a land where they are never able to leave while the Heroes barely age over the millennia they spend adventuring among the 9 Realms. As if that isn't cruel enough, Odin revealed a terrible Prophecy - Ragnarok, the final battle of all Mortal, Ethereal and Incorporeal beings where the Cycle of Immortality itself will end, killing beings who have never died with a Lif and Lifthrasir playing pivotal roles in those events. The Patrons of Old established the Accords - a treaty setting terms for all future Lifs and Lifthrasirs. Forced to train as Warriors and sacrifice their freedom, they serve under the Guardians, the council of members from all 9 Realms who designate missions so that their powers are shared equally, an agreement that has kept the peace for almost a million years but, as Odin himself revealed, all things come to an end. Nothing spells disaster like the Blazing Spear of Blood, created by Ymir from the root of Yggdrasil connected to Hel, capable of devouring anything with its cursed flames. Stolen by Xerxes the Red King, it has been stored in Ubhal Òir under the Lifs for millions of years, much to the chagrin of the Jotuns who now act as if it never existed. But it isn't forgotten. Someone is desperate to steal it and Comharrachadh Beatha is the perfect opportunity as most of the Guardians are on vacation enjoying the Tournament of Heroes where the Realms best Warriors come together on peaceful terms to battle each other. Treachery runs thick behind the celebrations as evil looks for an opportunity to rule again.

In the northern royal kingdom of Arszden, nothing is as it seems. Being one of the oldest of the Fourteen Kingdoms, time has made its history both fact and fairytale, and to this day, nobody knows which is more accurate, either fantasy or reality. Katarina Kasdan was born free, but 321 days ago, her entire world crumbled at her feet. Not for the first time, and surely, not for the last. Stripped of her right to freedom after her entire village was burned to the ground, she was taken as a thrall by the woman known as the Keiserinne, and used for her dark wishes. But her wyrd was long ago settled. When the infamous Steel Kairo walks into her life, everything changes, once more. He is everything she hates. Everything she fears. Everything she loves. He has secrets interwoven with the very birth of the world he seems to carry in his shoulders, holds more power than one should ever be given to wield, and, on top of it all, he is said to be immortal. Something she should have known the first time she tried to stab him. Or when he offered to teach her to throw knives. Or when he kissed her for the first time. But as another king sits on his throne destined to fall, others reach to claim a crown bejeweled with secrets that could mean the unveiling of a long-lost prophecy and a wyrd millennia before settled. And as false kings race to claim an inheritance that is neither theirs nor the king's firstborn, the wyrd wields its hand to place upon the one true heir's head the crown of the Lost King. And amid such secrets lies a fate that claims that these two will be the bane of each other's existence until the blood of one of them is shed upon a land of daisies. Thus, chaos will come. Lives will be lost. Bonds will be made. Vows will be broken. Blood will be spilled. Fates will be set. And war will be waged. And the only remaining question is whether steel will be broken or a daisy will blossom.
