What if Ash followed a different route while going on his journey? Instead of following the League route of Pewter city being the first gym what if he chose a different gym as his first?
This is my take on Ash making a slightly different choice and how it affects the series.

The story starts after Ash returns from his Alolan Journey. He spends a few days at home until suddenly he has a vision of a cloaked figure calling him to train at Mt.Silver. He heeds the call. In this timeline, almost all the events that happened in the anime still happen except, removing a couple of Ash's unnovan Pokémon, he wins the Kalos league, and he doesn't release Greninja. Galar doesn't exist in this universe. Other than that everything is virtual the same.
