Ariel Harper lives at Addison Apartments. Her father left when she was seven years old and remarried. Her mother is an abusive alcoholic. Most of the time she's too wasted to lay hands on her daughter, but that's not always the case. The only way Ariel is able to escape her mother's toxic environment is by staying with Larry, sometimes for weeks on end. Her mother is always too plastered to realize she's gone. Some days Ariel wonders if struggling to free herself from her mother is even worth the fight. Until she meets Sal and realizes that her life may just be worth living.
