Contrary to popular belief, Sirens are not Mermaids. Nor aquatic beings at all. Instead of rubbery gills and glistening scales, Sirens possess large powerful wings and a haunting song. They are tired and rugged, brought back from vengeance and spite. Unlike Mermaids, Sirens are born anytime from twisted and watery deaths. They are born from underwater screams by being shoved overboard. The huskiness in their voice from ocean salt carries into their alluring song even in the afterlife. They're given this second chance once their bodies are thrown in the sea. All because of one pesky goddess.

The sirens have been evacuated to a remote island after years of being pillaged and murdered for their ancestors crimes. Though the sirens enjoy their peaceful life on their new, lone island, food is growing scarce, resources are becoming more limited, and with no males in the species, reproduction is impossible. Ember has broken the rules before. She has swam to the human shores and seen humans. Unfortunately, it's not all the glamor that fairytales boast. She returns to the sea, battered and bloody, but her battle is over. Until she is chosen to go back to the humans. She is elected to marry a prince in need of a wife and strengthen bonds with the humans again, but the world she sees is worse than the one she fled from.
