In one timeline, Uzumaki Kushina would be rescued from her kidnappers by Minato Namikaze. She would fall in love with him, get married, and die saving their child from the Kyuubi no Youko.

But this is not that story.

Here Minato never got to save her, thanks to an observant Kumo shinobi. Here, after Kumogakure failed to convert her to their side, the Kyuubi was extracted from Kushina. She survived, but was thrown into the giant Lake Sokonashi to dispose of her body.

After all, how could someone get lucky enough to survive extreme odds twice?

But that just lead to the discovery of an ancient secret, held by the lake for almost 100,000 years, and, quite possibly, the salvation of both the Hidden Continent and the Wizarding World.
