Where the Echo Fades

"When the night falls, the only being you're a prey to is your own shadow."

"Do not fall into the hands of your shadow, Serena."

She listens carefully and takes a mental note of everything her grandmother teaches her.

That was their family motto, passed down from generations to generations.

It's funny how the last few words of that motto came fumbling out of her grandmother's tongue, much like how later on those words never really made any sense to her.

Because she was the shadow.
The bane of her existence.
