With less than five thousand people, the small town of Carp, Texas had seemingly fallen by the wayside. It was the type of place where comfortability outweighed growth and familiarity offered a sense of security. Most of the residents in the backwater town had been born and raised there, as had their parents, and their parents-parents; so as to be expected everyone knew everyone. The town felt safe, and that alone was enough to keep most of its people from ever venturing out. While the adults spent their days working, and children passed time at the library, Carp's teenage population was either wasting their youth out in the marsh or getting shit-faced in someone's trashy backyard. However, that all dissipated once Panic rolled around: a secret game in which players performed risky challenges in hopes of securing a life-altering amount of money.

Among this year's players was Wren Anderson, who'd always said that she'd play Panic. The newly-turned eighteen year old indisputably lived life on the very edge. She liked standing out of the sunroof at midnight, and drunkenly kissing people at parties because it came with a rush that flooded her bones. The truth is, Wren Anderson had never been able to sit still for quite long. The girl was always subconsciously reaching for something that reminded her she was alive-though the last thing she'd expected was for that something to come in the form of Carp's not so new kid, Dodge Mason.
