A tale as old as time, a song that may just rhyme Beauty and the thief. Or was that grief with a twist of fate and a wicked stirr of undesirable hate.

A witches curse, a magical tree, a desperate girl finding her forever after. Grimms fairy tales? Could be a retelling of beauty and the beast, Rumplestilskin, Hansel and Gretel, and Alice and the Wonderland.

Jane is forced to go on a journey down her own personal rabbit-hole. A curse that will follow her family for generations. A sister that finds something blue.. A witch that wants something true.

Something was promised ages ago and now it will fall on the summers.. Will it be Jane or Jesse or will Jane eventually have to give something up in order to save her family. Will she ever find her happily ever after?

"I wondered about my life and the men in it. Why did my life always seem too good to be true right before something awful happens. Oh right, this stupid curse."

105 parts Complete
Cole Glassad couldn't care less about the upcoming palace ball meant to find a wife for the prince. Her life is down in the dangerous Sparkstone mines, slaving away for a few coins that her stepmother and stepsister promptly steal. With life a living hell, she has barely enough energy to care for the injured animals she tends in secret, much less a party for the royal family that cares so little for her and the people like her. It isn't until a mysterious man appears out of the shadows, claiming to be one of the long-lost faeries and offering her a chance at freedom, that she begins to see hope. In exchange for enough money to free herself from her family, the faerie asks only for one thing in return-- that Cole attends the ball in order to get close enough to the prince to assassinate him and bring an end to the corrupted royal line. With her mission clear, Cole enters the world of the palace to learn about the prince and find a way into his ball. But dark secrets, violent plots, a strange sense that perhaps the prince isn't as bad as the faerie makes him seem, and a life-changing discovery about her past, all conspire to make Cole's shot at freedom messy and difficult. She must find the strength to get close to the prince, or else the mysterious faerie will send her back to the mines and her dreadful family. Once the clock strikes midnight... she must fulfill her end of the bargain. Once the clock strikes midnight... her hands must be red with the prince's blood.

[ an Open Novella Ambassador's Pick 2019, Longlisted in the Open Novella Contest ] [ featured on Fairytale Community's Misc. and Combo Fairytales Inspired/Retellings ] Ever since 15-year-old Annemie saw Antsje Pluk, the fairytale figure who supposedly eats children for dessert, she's known that the witch will come for her. Now that she's no longer a child, the forest doesn't scare her anymore. One night, she sneaks out. But instead of returning safely in the morning, Antsje Pluk curses and captures Annemie, bringing her to a cottage hidden deep in the woods. Girls have been disappearing from their village for years, but Aleta, Annemie's twin sister, won't let her become one of the lost. In order to save her sister, Aleta must face her fears head-on, find a magical flower, confront an evil witch, and break an age-old curse. Luckily, she has the guidance of an old friend, but the other girl is not what she seems, and there are secrets hidden in the woods. Sprinkled with Dutch lore, this retelling of a neglected fairytale is filled with witches, moss maidens, and shape-shifting, but it all comes down to some very human traits: bravery, sacrifice, and most of all, love. cover by @anonymousmlpfan "A lovely little story, full of brilliant fairy-tale descriptions.
