Red is your average emo-looking teenage girl. She want's to be a physiologist, and to gain experience she was offered a position at a Junior Ward. The ward is a few hours away from her horrible home town and Red is eager to go. Though, Red forgets she signed up to allow the ward to choose her position and is stuck with being the care-taker of an insane, depressed boy named, Zach. 
Zach and Red are roomed next to each other all summer, and the more Red learns about Zach the more she learns to like him, and the more she is determined to help him get out of there and into the real world. 
But with Zach's sickness getting worse some days and better on others, Red doesn't know if she will have enough time to help him before summer ends. She keeps telling herself she won't give up on the boy she's come to love... but she may be forced to.
