After the war, Alina and Mal decided to rebuild the orphanage in Keramzin. Alina was no longer a sun summoner. Or was she? She could sometimes still feel a flicker of power residing in her. But not just the light. The dark was inside her still as well.
But the Darkling is dead, right? Aleksander was dead and burned, never to return to the land of the living. At least, that was what she thought...

Alina knows what she is this time..but struggles with learning. When Alina meets Mal, they run off together leaving the Silinas behind. Amira misses her cousin but doesn't ask her to stay. it's later when all are adults that they cross paths again. Amira never went to second army so she joined first army with best friend Nicolas Stark. Being part of the same Regiment she comes face to face with Alina after all these years..but things are different for them. Alina didn't practice as she should of and Amira did..that's why when the day comes that General Kirigan is heading into first army camp..the General's initials are on her neck..being a strong grisha in hiding allows her the benefits of all Grisha. Alina notices but doesn't ask as she knew what her and Amira are but she knew she denied it for Mal.

A year after Alina Starkov tears down the Shadow Fold, she is finally able to settle into her peaceful life. There is no more war with Ravka.
