It's the spring of 1868 and Alice Kingsleigh finds herself in a doorway. It is a crudely carved sort of doorway, certainly not meant for the everyday comings and goings of proper society ladies. The promises from the other side frighten her, but she leaves nothing behind, and approaches the possibility of everything before her. Conversely, it is also April 1927 and Josef Stalin is mourning the loss of his second wife in the centre of a promising bud of the Socialist Future. He knows not how he will continue to find the strength to bring light to the Soviet peoples, but his answer may come where he least expects it.
